OPSEC Certified Professional (OCP) Application Process

To All Prospective OPSEC Certified Professionals:

The OPSEC Professionals Society (OPS) seeks to advance the practice of OPSEC as a profession and foster the highest qualities of professionalism and professional competence among its members. To further this purpose, OPS promotes the exchange of ideas and information on the methods, practices, and procedures related to OPSEC programs and associated activities. In addition to disseminating information, OPS is interested in developing and refining principles and techniques common to sound OPSEC practices.

OPS has established this OPSEC professional certification process to further support professional development and improvement. The following is provided to guide you through the application process. Included in this section of the OPS website you will find:

  • A description of the application process;
  • Application for Professional Certification and OPSEC Experience forms.

Please do not submit any supporting documentation with your application. Put full and sufficient justification for certification in the application form proper and in the narrative sections describing your experience.

Applicants for certification as an OPSEC Certified Professional (OCP) must be a regular member in good standing of OPS; submit a completed and signed application form; submit a description of five years OPSEC professional experience; have a four-year college degree and formal OPSEC training or equivalent; submit a paper on OPSEC; and, include a $100.00 application fee, of which $50.00 is a non-refundable processing/handling charge. The same fee will apply to all applicants.

After initial certification, all OCPs must be recertified at three year intervals, based upon their continued good standing in the OPS and upon earning sufficient number of credits for professional activities performed during the three year period. Details of the OCP Certification Maintenance process are available in Section III of this OPS website.

All OCP applicants must submit a package consisting of the application and experience forms, a paper, and the application fee. The following sections contain a description of the certification requirements and certification administration, along with instructions for the application and experience forms. Section I describes the three certification requirements: Experience; Education; and Paper. Section II contains descriptions of administrative procedures related to these requirements: Certification Administration; Certification Review Process; and Application Fee. The application and experience forms required are included as a part of the application process. Both forms may be reproduced.

We look forward to reviewing your application.
