Section II - Administrative Procedures

 

This section describes the administrative procedures for managing certification. Subsection A “Certification Administration,” describes the procedures to be used in processing the application for OCP. Subsection B, “Certification Review Process,” describes the procedures to be used in review and evaluation of the application package. Subsection C, “Application Fees,” discusses the fees for application and processing.

1. Certification & Administration


All candidate applications will be forwarded in hard and electronic copy to the address and e-mail below. The Standards Committee Chairman will maintain the original application package as a part of OPS records. The OPS Executive Secretary will send electronic copies of the application to members of the Committee. The Certification Committee is responsible for determining if the applicant meets the criteria for certification. All Committee members shall be OCPs.

2. Certification Review Process

The Committee shall review and evaluate each OCP application received against the criteria set forth in Section I above. The applicant must successfully meet all requirements specified in the criteria in order to be recommended for the OCP designation. Results of the Committee evaluation will be forwarded to the OPS National President. In the case of favorable recommendations, the Committee Chairman shall send a Letter and Certificate of Designation, notifying the applicant of certification. This officially authorizes the applicant to use the title “OCP” and “OPSEC Certified Professional”.

In the case of non-selection, the Standards Committee Chairman shall inform the applicant in writing via certified mail, including a general description of those areas deemed insufficient and supporting the rationale for the decision.

The applicant may appeal this decision to the National President of OPS. If an appeal is made, the applicant must provide a specific basis for review. All appeals must be submitted within 90 days of notification to the applicant. The President will constitute a panel consisting of no fewer than three members of the National Board of Directors to review and decide on the merits of the appeal, but exclusive of any OCP Committee representatives. OCP Committee representatives maybe called on to provide supporting vidence regarding their decision process. The applicant will be informed in writing of the decision of the Panel.

3. Application Fee

 

An application fee of $100.00, which includes $50.00 for processing/handling, must be submitted with the application. The same application fees will apply to all applicants. The processing / handling fee is not refundable. A single check in the amount of $100.00 shall be made out to the OPSEC Professionals Society and annotated as the application fee and processing fee for OCP certification. Processing of the application will not take place until a fee is received and deposited. Applicants failing to qualify for OCP shall receive a refund of $50.00 if an appeal is not made within the required ninety day appeal period. If a person does appeal and is or is not successful, the $50.00 will be retained by OPS.
